How PHIN works

PHIN is the league's GHIN-style index. Net differential per round = (gross โˆ’ rating) ร— 113 / slope, rounded to one decimal.

The current PHIN is the average of the lowest N differentials in the most recent 20-round window, where N depends on how many rounds the player has posted (per the official USGA WHS table below), plus the table's adjustment.

Rounds in window Lowest N used Adjustment
3 lowest 1 โˆ’2.0
4 lowest 1 โˆ’1.0
5 lowest 1 0
6 lowest 2 โˆ’1.0
7 lowest 2 0
8 lowest 2 0
9 lowest 3 0
10โ€“11 lowest 3 0
12โ€“14 lowest 4 0
15โ€“16 lowest 5 0
17โ€“18 lowest 6 0
19 lowest 7 0
20 lowest 8 0

Glossary

PHIN
League handicap index, GHIN-style. Average of your lowest-N differentials in the last 20 rounds. Lower is better.
Gross
Your raw 18-hole score before handicap is applied.
Net
Score after handicap. On this site, the round-table "Net" column shows 72 + Hcp Diff โ€” net relative to par 72.
Hcp Diff (Net Diff)
Handicap differential โ€” how this round adjusts your index. (gross โˆ’ rating) ร— 113 / slope. Lower is better.
Course Rating
What a scratch golfer is expected to shoot from those tees. Bay Hill default: 71.5.
Slope
How much harder the course plays for a bogey golfer vs a scratch. 113 = average. Bay Hill default: 133.
Net Double Bogey Cap
Per WHS rules, a hole score is capped at par + 2 + handicap strokes received on that hole before the differential is calculated. Replaces the old ESC system.
Bayhill HDCP
Course handicap at Bay Hill (slope 133, rating 71.5). What you'd actually use for league play. Whole integer, half-up, capped at 18.
Order of Merit
Season points leaderboard. Top 10 auto-qualify for the playoffs.
Falling off
A round about to drop out of the rolling 20-round window the next time a player posts a new round.
Best-N
The N lowest differentials in the window โ€” these are the rounds currently counting toward PHIN.
R1 Bonus Strokes
In the Finals (Round 1 only), seeds 1โ€“5 receive additional strokes added to their Bayhill handicap: 1st +8, 2nd +5, 3rd +4, 4th +3, 5th +2. Seeds 6โ€“11 play at true Bayhill. Handicaps capped at 18. Round 2 (top 5 advance) uses true PHIN with no adjustments. See Addendum 4.
Wildcard Seed
The 11th playoff seed earned by winning the Wild Card event (18-hole stroke play among non-qualifiers with 8 starts). The wildcard winner receives no R1 bonus strokes in the Finals.
